History of Palm Inc.

From the first Palm Pilot onward, Palm, Inc. has been up, down, and sideways. Bouncing around between U.S. Robotics, 3Com, Handspring, and other offshoots before finally coalescing into Palm, Inc. as it stands today, the company's glory days seemed all but over last year—that is, until January's announcement at CES of the forthcoming Palm Pre.
The Pre smartphone and its accompanying webOS, to be launched June 6, have the mobile market in a frenzy, and the company's widely predicted death knell has been silenced, at least for now. Here's a look back at PC Magazine's coverage of the pivotal products that shaped Palm's evolution, beginning with the U.S. Robotics Pilot that started it all in 1996.
